SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Freshman Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, announced the league office Monday.
The rookie averaged 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game to help the Lions to a 2-1 record on the week.
Rice scored six points, grabbed five boards and dished out two assists as Eastern Nazarene edged Wheelock 62-61 in the 2016-17 season-opener.
He netted 14 points in the Lions' 83-72 setback at Daniel Webster where he splashed four three-pointers.
Rice capped off the week with eight points, three assists, two rebounds and one block as Eastern Nazarene knocked off MIT 82-79. The freshman swished three clutch free throws late in the game to seal the win.
Rice connected on 9-of-18 field-goal attempts on the week, including seven treys on 14 efforts.
The Lions return to action November 22 as they make their first-ever trip to Pine Manor.
