KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2016-17 academic year, announced the association Wednesday.
The distinction marks the programs' first-ever NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. In order to earn the recognition, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA must count the grade-point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed on the hardwood during the 2016-17 season.
A total of 209 men's basketball teams from across the nation were honored for excellence in the classroom.
The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team posted a 13-14 overall record in 2016-17 and reached the Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals for the third time in five years.
