QUINCY, Mass.- Fueled by a three-goal effort from junior Charlie Swann (London, England), the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team topped Suffolk 4-2 under the lights at Veterans Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening.
The Lions climb to 2-1-0 on the season with the victory while the Rams fall to 0-1-1 overall.
The home team got on the board in the 14th minute to grab a 1-0 edge. Swann buried his team-leading fourth goal of the season, finishing off a feed by Leon Zaffonato (Canela, Brazil).
The visitors responded with an equalizer in the 26th minute to pull even at 1-1. Simon Velez Angel rifled in a long-range shot from beyond the top of the box for his second marker of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene reclaimed a one-goal advantage in the 31st minute, 2-1. Swann scored his second tally of the match as he headed home a lofted pass by Zaffonato.
The Lions carried the 2-1 lead into the halftime break while Suffolk sported a 10-9 edge in first-half shot attempts.
The hosts widened the margin to 3-1 in the 73rd minute. Edmilson Centeio (New Bedford, Mass.) headed in his first marker of the season after Prem Subedi (Scranton, Pa.) curled in a cross from the left flank.
Eastern Nazarene stretched its lead to 4-1 in the 81st minute of the contest. Swann capped off his hat trick with a one-time shot into the back of the cage with Zaffonato picking up his third assist of the night.
The Rams cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 86th minute. Velez Angel collected his second goal of the game, heading in a free kick delivery by Trevor Murdock.
The Lions finished with 16 shots on the evening while Suffolk recorded 19 attempts.
Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) posted five saves in goal for the home side in his third start of the fall.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene is slated to host Lasell September 11 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
