BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team absorbed a pair of losses Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tri-match at Wentworth. The Lions suffered a 3-1 setback to Emmanuel before dropping a 3-0 decision to the No. 11 Leopards.
The Lions move to 2-6 on the year with the results while the Saints progress to 3-7 overall and the Leopards improve to 7-3.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) racked up 30 kills and 16 digs on the day. Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) posted 14 kills on the afternoon while Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) notched 20 digs and a pair of aces. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with 57 assists and 18 digs.
In the middle contest of the tri-match, Eastern Nazarene fell to Emmanuel 3-1.
The Saints captured the opening set 25-16 before the Lions clawed back to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 victory in the second frame.
Emmanuel prevailed 25-16 in the third to reclaim a one-set advantage.
The Saints locked up the win with a 25-22 decision in the fourth set.
In the tri-match finale, Eastern Nazarene endured a straight-sets loss to nationally-ranked Wentworth.
The Leopards seized the first frame 25-20, cruised to a 25-14 win in the second, and capped off the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third set.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to face off against Mount Ida February 15 for the second time this season. The Lions prevailed 3-0 over the Mustangs in the 2018 season-opener earlier this year.
