CULVER CITY, Calif.- Junior Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) of the Eastern Nazarene College softball team has been named to the Fastpitch News Preseason All-America first team, announced the organization Tuesday. She becomes the first Preseason All-American in program history.
Schaffer earned Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year honors last spring along with All-Commonwealth Coast Conference first team honors. She was also selected to the NFCA All-Region second team a year ago.
Last season, Schaffer started 20 games in the pitcher's circle and also made six relief appearances. She compiled a 17-6 record with 19 complete games.
Schaffer racked up 232 strikeouts in 155 innings pitched and finished the spring with a 0.95 earned-run average.
Along with her pitching prowess, Schaffer notched 21 base hits last year and batted .280 with a slugging percentage of .413. She chipped in with six RBIs, four runs scored, and one homer a season ago.
Last spring, Eastern Nazarene posted a 28-12 overall record to go with a 13-5 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Lions reached the CCC Tournament and came one game short of advancing to the championship series.
Eastern Nazarene opens the 2019 campaign in Clermont, Florida March 1 against Rose-Hulman and Neumann.
