QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team captured a 3-0 victory over Salem State and dropped a 3-1 decision to Mount Ida at the ENC Invitational to open the 2017 campaign Friday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions move to 1-1 on the year while the Vikings progress to 1-1 and the Mustangs start the season 2-0.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) paced the hosts with 26 kills and 18 digs on the night. Jenna Meacham (Millington, Mich.) posted 15 kills, 22 digs, and six aces in her collegiate debut. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with 52 assists and 13 digs while McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) recorded 24 digs.
In the opening match, Eastern Nazarene grabbed the first set 25-16 before doubling its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-21 win in the second frame.
The Lions clinched their first victory of the season with a 25-19 decision in the third set.
In the nightcap, Mount Ida edged Eastern Nazarene 25-23 in the first game.
The Lions clawed back to level the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 victory in the second.
The Mustangs responded with a 25-15 decision in the third and a 25-12 win in the fourth.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will wrap up play at the ENC Invitational September 2 against Newbury followed by a championship or consolation match.
