Women’s Volleyball’s Comeback Bid Falls Short in Five at University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit before falling 3-2 at the University of New England Tuesday evening.

The Lions sink to 9-14 on the year and 1-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setback. The Nor'easters improve to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in league competition with the win.

Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted 16 kills to lead the team while adding nine digs and two aces. Jenna Meacham (Millington, Mich.) chipped in with eight kills, 13 digs, and seven total blocks. Hailee Owen (South Portland, Maine) finished with six kills and five total blocks on the night. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) recorded 31 assists, nine digs, two kills, and one service ace in the match. McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) added 13 digs and four aces.

The home team rattled off six straight points to prevail 25-12 in the opening set, establishing a 1-0 lead.

The University of New England doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-20 win in the second game.

Eastern Nazarene clawed back with a 25-19 victory in the third frame to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Lions pulled even at 2-2 after edging the Nor'easters 25-22 in the fourth.

The hosts narrowly captured the decisive fifth set, 15-13, to escape with the 3-2 victory.

Molly Camelo and Bekah Mather paced the Nor'easters with 14 kills each while Sydney Christiansen posted a triple-double with 26 assists, 13 digs, and 10 kills.

Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Pine Manor October 14 on Homecoming weekend.
