NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team collected a 3-1 victory over John Jay before falling to nationally-ranked Rivier 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions progress to 2-1 on the year with the results. The Bloodhounds dip to 0-1 overall while the Raiders, ranked No. 9 in the AVCA National Preseason Poll, improve to 1-0 on the season.
Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) recorded 20 kills, nine digs, and four aces on the day. Delfy Soler (Lawrence, Mass.) finished with 18 kills, 11 digs, and a pair of aces. Nicholas Thibeau (Spencerport, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) registered 41 assists and 12 digs while Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) collected 15 digs.
In the matinee matchup, Eastern Nazarene rallied past John Jay 3-1.
The Bloodhounds captured the first set 25-22 to grab a 1-0 edge.
The Lions answered with a 25-22 win in the second frame to level the match at 1-1.
Eastern Nazarene seized a 26-24 decision in the third to jump ahead 2-1.
The visitors edged John Jay 25-23 in the fourth set to lock up their second victory of the season and first-ever win over the Bloodhounds.
In their second tilt of the afternoon, Eastern Nazarene dropped a 3-0 decision to Rivier.
The Raiders raced past the Lions 25-10 in the opening frame to construct a 1-0 advantage.
Rivier extended its lead to 2-0 with a 25-7 win in the second set before capping off the sweep with a 25-11 decision in the third.
