Women’s Soccer Silences Wheelock, 8-0

BOSTON, Mass.- Six different players found the back of the net as the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team rolled past Wheelock 8-0 in a non-conference tilt Thursday evening at Winsor Field. The Lions jump to 2-5-1 overall with the win while the Wildcats drop to 1-6 on the year.

Eastern Nazarene grabbed an early lead as Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.) deposited her second goal of the season just 6:33 into the match. After a deflection inside the penalty area, Spitler knocked loose ball into an open net to give the Lions a 1-0 edge. Rookie Angelica Moreno (Clovis, Calif.) recorded her first collegiate point as she picked up an assist on the score.

The visitors tacked on their second goal of the contest in the 14th minute to extend the gap to 2-0. Junior Erin Daley (Byfield, Mass.) netted her first marker of the season, blasting a shot through the hands of the goalkeeper.

Eastern Nazarene widened the margin to three on a strike from Ginger Slebodnik (Woodlawn, Tenn.) in the 25th minute of play. Slebodnik buried a shot from the middle of the penalty area, firing the ball just out of the goalkeeper's reach for her first of the year.

In the 37th minute, Moreno notched her first career goal to push the Lions' lead to 4-0. Savannah Sivert (Laytonsville, Md.) crossed the ball into box before Moreno sent a shot into the left side of the cage.

Just minutes before the first half expired, Daley tallied her second score of the night to give the visitors a 5-0 advantage at the midway point of the match. Daley found the back of the net from inside the box after a service from Moreno.

Eastern Nazarene held a commanding 20-1 lead in shots through 45 minutes of action while earning all four corner kicks awarded in the opening frame.

Sophomore Cara Reiley (North Andover, Mass.) tallied her first score of the season in the 79th minute to increase the Lions' lead to six, 6-0. Reiley settled a punted ball from goalkeeper Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) and buried a shot in the net.

Reiley netted her second goal of the match in the 84th minute as she found the back of the net from the center of the box. Olivia Hoover (Pine City, N.Y.) fed the sophomore with a cross from the left wing to pick up her first assist of the season.

Sivert capped off the scoring with the visitors' eighth score of the contest. Reiley whipped a cross into the box for Sivert to knock home from the middle of the penalty area for her first marker of the 2012 campaign.

Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) extended her shutout-streak to 177:52 as she held Wheelock scoreless in her fourth start of the season. Henry registered six saves in goal for Eastern Nazarene to preserve the clean sheet.
