SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Senior Morgan Goodney (East Greenwich, R.I.) headed home the game-winning goal in the 95th minute to propel the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory at Western New England Saturday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the win. The loss drops the Golden Bears to 5-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in league action.
Eastern Nazarene tacked on the game's opening score as Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 38th minute. Speno's shot took a deflection off of a defender and bounced into the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Western New England leveled the match at 1-1 with just three seconds remaining in the first frame. Emma Nordon headed in a corner kick service from Jocelyn Rose before halftime.
At the end of regulation, the Lions held a 12-9 edge in shots while the Golden Bears owned a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks earned.
In the extra session, Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) floated a ball to Goodney inside the penalty box and the senior buried her first marker of the season to secure the victory.
Freshman Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) turned aside six shots on the day for Eastern Nazarene. Briana Kubic made four saves in goal for Western New England.
The Lions return to action October 3 with a home match against Nichols.
