SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Sophomore Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) of the Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, announced the league office Monday.
Biondi posted four victories on the week to lead the Lions to a pair of wins.
In Eastern Nazarene's 9-0 non-conference win over Lesley, Biondi cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top singles position. She also teamed up with rookie Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) to collect an 8-2 win at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Biondi capped off the week with a singles victory and doubles victory to help the Lions defeat Western New England for the first time in program history. The sophomore earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 singles slot and partnered with Ruttkowski to notch an 8-3 win at the top doubles position.
Eastern Nazarene boasts a 5-1 overall record with a 3-1 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Lions return to action September 25 to host Roger Williams.
